ELAFONISI

This lovely islet was the site of a massacre of 850 women and children by the Turks in 1824.

They were hidden there. However, as the Turks were camping on the beaches, a horse found the shallow water path 0.5-0.8 m thick on the island. The Turks, following the horse, discovered the women and children and killed them. For this reason, a memory plate is installed at the highest point of the island. How to get there? You can get there by bus from Chania or by car if you go to Elafonissi (43 km. From Kastelli, 76 km. From Chania).
